I heart these modest, tribal-esque come posh-peasant, gowns from the Valentino Spring 2014 collection. If you turn a blind eye to the sheer panels across the chest (nothing that an essential long-sleeve top can't cover up), any one of these dresses can quite easily be worn with (or without) a hijab.
At Valentino, Chiuri and Piccioli have cultivated a kind of trust with their audience. Unlike so many other labels which frantically grab at novelty every season, what Valentino delivers is calm continuity, another installment in what the designers might do with a long, chaste dress, lace, flower embroidery, and (increasingly) an interesting cape each season.
These elaborate and ethnic abaya-like designs are not only beautiful but modest and so, get both thumbs up from me.
