It's that time of year again. I love trolling through the red carpet looks de jour and picking out the good, the bad, the modest and the ugly.
The Oscars are a bit like going to your grandparents house; you can't dress too wacky. It's quite a serious affair and it's not really the place to try out a wild, new look.
Some people, like Lady Gaga, got the memo.
Others, like Pharrell Williams, didn't.

Oscars 2014 Dress Theme
This year's Oscar dresses came in all shapes and sizes but the overwhelming theme on the red carpet was definitely a pale beige/nude palette.
Everyone from Jessica Garner to Lady Gaga looked stunning. Wait. What? Lady Gaga? Who are you and what have you done with Crazy Gaga? I don't think I've ever seen her dress so...normal. Her dress is surprisingly...uncontroversial. It's actually nice (still can't believe I'm typing this about Gaga).
The Gowns
A stunning dress on a stunning woman. Angelina Jolie wore a long sleeved, glitzy, Ellie Saab gown. This beautiful metallic dress has a modern 1920's-chic vibe and sat beautifully on her svelte frame.
Actress Sally Hawkins wears this beautifully embroided dress. Not bad, but I can't help but think the dress is slightly too OTT for her petite frame. It would sit very well on someone with a bit more curves that could give the dress a bit more definition and make it stand out. She still looks stunning though, no love lost!
Actress Judie Delpy does 1920's glamour and pulls it off with soft waves and cherry lips that are bang on the right era. The dress could have been a few shades darker so as not to clash with her fair complexion and make her look washed-out, but hey! Whatevs.
30 year old American actress and presenter at the 2014 Oscars Gabourey Sidibe wore a gown by Theia. It features a deep orchid, is hand embroidered with laser cut habotai petals and secured with glass seed beads. The Cadbury purple complimented her skin tone and gave her a radiance on the red carpet.
Beauty doesn't age. Glenne Close in Zac Posen and June Squib in Tadashi.
Rashida Jones (left) and Sarah Paulson in Ellie Saab (right).
Alfre Woodard in this very beautiful Badgley Mischka gown (left) and Merly Streep (right).
Best Dressed
The Runner Up
Kelly Osbourne was winning at the Grammys 2014 and she's winning at the Oscars. This very simple and soft dress is given a very vintage sparkle across the chest. Beautifully subtle.
The Winner
Camila Alves. Where do one start? I won't say much. I'll let this beautifully draped, creamy pink, elegant, and most importantly, modest, Gabriel Cadena gown do the talking/walking.
Worst Dressed
Woopi, Woopi, Woopi. Why? there was no need, honestly. She was trying to go for the Julia Roberts look, expect for, she's not Julia. Sorry, love.
Ellen may have raised a few eyebrows and started a twitter storm when she joked that Liza Minnelli looked like a man in drag...but she wasn't far off. She used to have such a beautiful face. When will celebs learn that plastic doesn't equal youth/beauty. Sigh. Anyway, her outfit was awful.
Best/worst till last: Pharell Williams arrived in shorts...
...The end.
