Hair Detox: Natural, Homemade Shampoo & Conditioner Recipes For Dry, Frizzy, Oily, or Dandruff-prone Hair

Regardless of whether you wear a hijab or not or the length, texture, or style of your hair, we as women, all want the same thing- a healthy head of hair!

For many of us this means hair that is fuller, moisturized, and free from those annoying problems such as split ends, dandruff, hair that breaks off, or horrible frizz.
There are tonnes of products on the market (as I'm all too aware) that aim to treat these issues. These products can not only get pricey but the vast majority of them are all selling a dream. Unfortunately, most do not offer the results they claim to provide but do guarantee to leave a hole in your pocket (at least they deliver on something).

Fear not oh Fatima, Leila, and Sara. Just keep calm and go to your kitchen. Not to cook, but to pick up your very own at-home, all natural, all environmentally-friendly, shampoo and conditioner.

Shampoo: Lemon & Cucumber
Surprisingly lemons and cucumbers have a moisturizing effect for hair and the scalp.
Take one peeled lemon and one peeled cucumber and use a food processor to blend the two and turn them into a liquid like paste.  Rub into the hair and then rinse well. Your hair will be cleansed, nourished, and moisturized.
Conditioner: Honey & Olive Oil
Honey is a wonderful ingredient to help replenish moisture in the hair. A mixture of honey (1/2 cup) and olive oil (2 tablespoons) should be placed on the hair and left on for 20 minutes. Afterwards the mixture should be rinsed and out to reveal hair that has locked in moisture without becoming too oily.

Shampoo: Honey & Essential Oils
Another one of honey’s many benefits is frizz control. Mix 2 tablespoons of raw honey, 6 tablespoons of warm water, and a few drops of the essential oil of your choice. Rub this mixture in thoroughly and rinse after. Your hair will be smooth and manageable for styling as desired.
Conditioner: Avocado & Egg Yolk / Mayonnaise
Avocado possesses natural oils and proteins that work wonders for taming unmanageable hair. Mix ½ an avocado with 1 to 2 tablespoons of eggs yolks or mayonnaise. Massage the mixture into the hair and leave it in for 15 minutes. The end result after rinsing is sleek and silky hair that everyone will envy.

#3 For Dry Scalp

Shampoo: Honey, Water & Essential Oils
Honey’s moisturizing properties are good for treating dry, flaky scalps. To make a honey based shampoo mix 1 tablespoon of raw honey, 3 tablespoons of water, and a few drops of essential oil in your desired scent. Your hair will smell divine and smell nourished after the wash.
Conditioner: Olive Oil & Lemon Juice
A great conditioning option for an itchy scalp is olive oil and lemon juice mixture. Take two table spoons of olive oil, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and two tablespoons of water. Apply onto scalp and allow the mixture to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse. The olive oil moisturizes and the lemon juice’s acidity breaks up loose dandruff so it can be rinsed out. The end result is flake free, moisturized hair.

#4 For Oily Hair

Shampoo: Green Clay, Liquid Castile Soap, Green Tea & Tea Tree Oil
Green clay is a miracle worker for oily hair because it soaks up oil and grime beautifully. A wonderful shampoo mixture to treat the problem involves mixing 1 tablespoon of green clay and 1 tablespoon of liquid castile soap with 1 tea spoon of green tea and 10 drops of tea tree oil. Pairing the green clay with green tea and tea tree oil will replenish the stripped oils with the right amount of moisture; ultimately resulting in well balanced hair.
Conditioner: Coconut Oil & Egg Yolk
Coconut oil is great for getting rid of excess oils while still leaving the hair feeling soft, light, and moisturized. A blend of 1 cup water, 1 cup egg yolk, and 1 teaspoon coconut oil will do the trick. The mixture should be applied evenly and left on for 2 to 5 minutes, then rinsed thoroughly. What’s left behind is luscious, healthy hair.
These natural at home shampoo and conditioning recipes are a great place to start in order to treat some very common hair issues. These mixtures can be made in minutes for far less than the products you find on the store shelves. Just a small investment of time will result in hair that is healthier, more beautiful, and the envy of all your friends.

Et Voila! Get washing and feel free to let me know how it worked for you, Insha'Allah.
