I’m always on the lookout for the ultimate mother-of-foundations. My usual Clinique foundation had finished and I I finally puckered up the courage to try a new one. Because I have mostly oily skin (perhaps combination, as my cheeks can get awfully dry) I have to be very careful not to go too crazy and use anything that is going to clog my pours with oil. So I knew I needed an oil-free foundation- I knew that much. After checking out a few stands, I stumbled into Clarins as they had a hygienic, plant-based, all natural-because-their-interior-is-all-white type of look (victim of marketing or what). I tried-I bought.
Now I hate reading reviews that claim miracles (unjustifiably). This foundation is OK, it’s even good. The best way to describe it is a combination of powder and foundation. It has a light to medium coverage and is creamy with a lot of texture. It fairs rather well throughout the day, but just like all foundations gives less coverage towards the end.
Pros: oil free, and apparently ‘ helps eliminate problem areas’ while it’s on- which, for someone that has skin that is prone to break-outs, is a good thing. Also, considering it’s matte it doesn’t leave your face looking dry as a desert that’s been starved of rainfall. The sleek design of the bottle easily slips into the interior compartment of any bag, big or small and is made of plastic (not glass) so you can squeeze every last drop!
Cons: unless you have naturally flawless skin, the coverage isn’t as good as some other foundations I’ve tried. Also, perhaps due to the fact that I don’t usually use a matte finish, this foundation didn’t give me the same glow as my Clinique foundation did.
In conclusion, Clarins Ever Matte gets a 6.5/10. It’s good, but it isn’t the Holy Grail of foundations.
My search continues…..
